My first day of Pre-School 2009

The best way to make children good is to make them happy. ~Oscar Wilde

Even a minor event in the life of a child is an event of that child's world and thus a world event.
~Gaston Bachelard

For many people September 9, 2009 was just an ordinary Wednesday, but in our house hold it was a big, big day. Hunter started Preschool. His first day of school, with all of the excitement, nerves, questions, and wonder... For me it was an extraordinary day!

I woke Hunter up and he got to chose whatever he wanted for breakfast. He wanted to make Mickey Mouse pancakes, so we did. He must have been nervous because he ate them all and had a million questions about school.
After breakfast we got ready to go. As we were leaving he was overwhelmed with excitement and was off and running to the car. As we got closer to the school anxiety set in for Hunter and sadness came over me like a rain cloud. Hunter was worried that he didn't know how to learn and the teacher wasn't going to like him... Bless his baby heart, if he only knew that it is impossible not to love him. As for my sadness, I felt so guilty that I was sad on such a momentous occasion, but couldn't help but feel as though he was just a little closer to that dreaded Independence than I am ready for, oh yea, and having to admit to myself that he really isn't a baby any more. Never you fear... Once we were inside amongst all the chaos of the fist day of school, the crying, the laughing, and the simultaneous heartbreak of some mother's, the ever so slight sigh of relief that the two hour break was bringing to other mother's, I was overwhelmed with excitement and pride, and that is just what was beaming out of Hunter. Of course I had to snap a few pictures and get a hug and kiss before I could leave him to venture on this new journey.

Funny side story... On my way out of his classroom there were a few mother's watching through the one way mirror. So I stood there talking to two gals, observing our kids, watching, and giggling together when all of the sudden Hunter ran out the door chasing something, spotting me and says "Mom.....just go already!!!" So I did :)

A Circle of Friends
We've joined together as classmates
as the new year begins...
A year full of learning
While we become friends
We'll share and be kind
as we work and play
And our friendship will grow
with each passing day.
Education is when you read the fine print. Experience is what you get if you don't. ~Lydia M. Child

I had to add this quote from Ms. Child because it sums up the rest of our prescool experience.
Hummiliation take one!... I arrived nice and early to observe the last 10 minutes of Hunter's class. I am watching him play with another little boy, and slowly I realize that I don't recognize any of the kids and none of the parents looke the same? I think I hear the director and Hnter's teacher mention his name, so I walk over to them and wouldn't you know it I am a half hour late! I didn't read the fine print, I got a crash course in fine print experiences on that day. I was so embarased! Here's to a better day two!
Well Hunter Boo... I am so proud of the little man that you have become so far and I look forward to watching all of your experiences and journeys mold you into the amazing person you will grow into later. I love you so much it's not fair!!! :)
(Hunter said that to me once out of no where and we have been telling eachother that ever since)!!!

Happy Birthday Grandma Helen Melon....

Sunday, August 30th... Grandma Helen and Grandpa Phil came over to visit Hunter and I to break in the wonderful gift I got for my birthday... A new BBQ grill! Since Phil is the czar of the BBQ he gave me a lot of tips and tricks on grilling. Mainly he wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be a "girl" about it and forget to turn off the propane. Hunter and I made Helen a cake and Hunter picked out a few birthday necessities for Helen, i.e. a birthday hat, little table decorations, candles, and of course you have to have a very special birthday plate. Helen and I agreed on a small dinner with just a few items but of course neither of us could stick to it and we ended up with enough food for a week. But what can you expect from the "best cookers" (according to Hunter)? We adore Helen and Phil and are so blessed to have them in our lives... Chance made us family, and I am so grateful for them. Happy Birthday Helen!!!!

Happy Birthday Mommy

Sunday (august 23rd) was my birthday, so Hunter and I were off to Grandma Helen's to celebrate. I have no pictures of this because "freaky camera mom" (that's me) forgot it??? I rarely go anywhere without that thing, I was so mad!!! Helen had bought Olivia and Hunter a pool, Hunter was so surprised and excited that when he saw it I couldn't get him out. Hunter and Olivia splashed and played the afternoon away. I was shocked that Hunter came in long enough to eat. As always Helen had a fabulous spread and Phil, the "Best BBQ'r in the West", amazing Tri Tips!!!! It was fun sharing the day with great friends!!!

Fun at the Zoo... Part 2

Gluten for punishment should be the title of this post. Yes, the very next day (Friday) Hunter and I did it again. We packed up our things and headed over to Grandma Helen's house... Baby Olivia was back for a visit from Japan... Oh yea, and she brought her Mom (Elizabeth) and Dad (Andy), and Uncle Joe.

Hunter was so excited to see Olivia he couldn't wait. We got to Helen's, packed up our picnic lunch and off to the zoo we went. We got there, ate, then we were off to see the animals. The kids had a great time seeing all the animals, and baby Olivia was so cute repeating all of the animal names. They both had a favorite attraction (or two) and funny enough it was the same for both of them... Dippin Dotts Ice Cream and the Carousel. It was hot, and those two things were the coolest thing about the zoo that day! Olivia got the soft serve ice cream until she discovered my Dippin Dotts, then yes folks, I got a new best girlfriend. We sat on the grass and shared an ice cream it was fabulous!!! But all good things must come to an end... Seems Joe has the same mantra as Grandma Helen... "What my baby wants, my baby gets"!
Uncle Joe got Olivia her own Dippin Dotts... What a good uncle. Hunter didn't have much to say while we were enjoying our cool snack, because he was too busy inhaling it to even breath, as I mentioned It was HOT! After he finished my shy and timid little boy (Lol) was making friends with a group of little ones and having such a good time. We finished the day by checking out a few more exhibits, a train ride and a trip into the gift shop to buy the obnoxious toy giraffe hunter wanted. The walk back to the car seemed like ages because it was HOT!!!! Poor Daddy, by the time we met up, for him to take Hunter for the weekend, I was so grumpy and tired and Hunter was too... and we took it out on him! Sorry Daddy.... but it was HOT!!!! 104 degrees to be exact, despite the heat I am glad that we went. Grandma Helen was in her element with all of her babies, it was fun for me to watch. We love you all....

Fun at the Zoo

August 20, 2009 - Hunter and I met up with one of my dear friends Anissa and her sweet little man Tristan for a fun filled day at the Zoo... Despite the heat we had a wonderful time together letting our boy's be boy's while Anissa and I caught up on girlfriend talk. Tristan and Hunter were hilarious together, and were such troopers hiking all around in the 104 degree heat. Thank goodness for the misting fans, that in and of itself became just as important of an attraction for us as the animals! Thanks Anissa and Tristan for such a great day filled with fun and friends (and SWEAT)... We love you !!!
